This is not a business pitch

Last night I went to the second startup meet-up in Skopje (no blog post there yet). It was interesting to hear the plans of the incubator managers and hopefully we will see most of those plans coming into action in the following months.

This morning, thinking about what it takes to succeed as a startup I decided to google for 'startup success rate'. The results of the cold reality are that 1 out of 10 make it if you take the more optimistic approach to evaluating the success. Testing this odds will be one of the things that the local scene must do.

However, for someone coming from the social sciences and having an eye for alternative takes on obvious matters, I'm interested to explore the social implications of a startup community. The one in Skopje that is about to be born makes a perfect sample to begin the exploration.

Titled "Museum of failed startups" my idea is to talk and record, discuss and publish (inspiration, motivation, prestige, reputation) and the effects and feelings of the near certain failure [given the odds above] (predictions of worst case scenarios, obstacles, personal and societal expectations), and what next.

This will obviously need the consent of the startup center as well as those people/companies that will work there. On-boarding someone to do the web stuff would be also useful if we want to have the web+candle+monkey feel to the museum.

Of course, I just might try to join the startup scene as well.
